This is me.

My name is Kambiz.

I’m getting 25.

Maybe when you watch this I’m gonna be over 25

But who cares?

We are here to speak about language learning, not my age.

The reason I brought up my age is because I’m 25

and I’m gonna talk about 25 things in language learning

which i was as hell wrong about.

So, for this reason, I asked two of my friends

miss Parvin and Fateme to help me out with this series of videos.

Each mistake will have its own video.

So without further ado

let’s jump to mistake number one

the more content I’ll have the better I’ll get.

Alright before any further instructions

let’s make this point straight.

If you are a beginner and want to start language learning,

start with a lot of contents.

Do you want to know why?

Okay, let me tell you my story.

The first time I decided to learn a language

I was 18.

I was in a classroom and there were about 30 students

and a very cool teacher.

I remember someone asked the teacher

“How did you learn English?

Did you enroll in any kind of classes?”

And he said

“No, I learned English all by myself, at home.”

And I was like

“What? This is impossible

learning a language without any classes or teacher.

BS”

But then

I was wondering

“what if it’s possible?

What if I can learn English all by myself?

Isn’t going to be cool to be able to speak a foreign language?

Dude!

Just imagine it.

People will be amazed seeing me speaking English.

I don’t know why I thought that.

I can get any job I want

any opportunity I could grasp…

anything…

So after daydreaming about lots of things,

after the class, I went to my teacher and asked him

“How can I learn English?

What textbooks do you recommend for me to buy and study at home?

He saw my eagerness

and told me about the books I should have bought.

The books were

Interchange series

Oxford picture dictionary

Key sentences of Manocher Sorkhabi

A grammar book from Abbass Farzam.

So After the class I immediately went to a bookstore

and bought all of them.

But to tell you how much of an ambitious person I was,

I went home and downloaded 20 gigabytes of different courses

After downloading for several days

now was the time to study English.

YES all I had to do was to finish these courses

and become fluent in English.

Simple formula right?

So I started fooooor 2 days and a half and I was done.

I couldn’t study anymore.

Because I was confused and totally bored.

I couldn’t decide what to study.

I had plenty of things in front of me

that my brain couldn’t focus on.

Yes

that’s the thing we need the most.

Focus.

Concentration.

When you want to learn a language you need concentration.

Especially if you are at the beginning stage of learning.

Let me give you an example:

Imagine we have two men.

Both have only 4 hours of free time.

Man number 1 wants to learn drawing,video editing,

singing and programming.

So he puts one hour for each skill.

On the other hand Man number 2 only wants to learn drawing

and he puts 4 hours on just that skill.

Here is what happens.

Both will improve.

but Man number 2 will have better result

because he has more focus on one skill.

This is true for contents too.

If you have plenty of contents

you cannot devote enough focus on them

so at the end you won’t receive good results.

Because you are picking something from everything.

So my advice to you is to just pick one or two contents

and focus on them.

Always remember

focus is super important when it comes to acquiring a skill

like a learning a foreign language.

Ah another important point that I have to mention

is that you should be careful

about the content you are choosing too.

If you choose one or two contents

but they are not good still you will fail.

My recommendation to you

is to choose a content which is comprehensible

and compelling to you.

In the future episodes we will discuss more

about what to choose.
