Past Continuous
When Diane was younger, she wasn’t always feeling flow or the zone. She was always competing at sports.
What was she doing when she was younger? She was always competing at sports when she was younger.
As a small child she was playing on a boys baseball team and using the name Dan.
What name was she using? She was using the name Dan.
In high school and college she was playing basketball and becoming a champion tennis and golf player. After college, she was playing professional tennis.
What was she playing after college? She was playing professional tennis after college.
She was traveling the world for four years competing in tennis tournaments. She was always running to stay in shape for tennis, but running was not her main sport.
Was running her main sport? No, running was not her main sport.
At the age of 21, suddenly Diane was having seizures.
What was happening suddenly? Suddenly Diane was having seizures.
She had epilepsy. Epilepsy is a serious condition that affects one percent of the population. Sometimes Diane was losing consciousness and falling down.
What was happening to her during a seizure? Sometimes Diane was losing consciousness and falling down.
Other times, she was having much worse seizures. Her body was locking up and her arms and legs were shaking.

She was losing complete control of her body. Diane was an athlete and the mother of three children. With epilepsy, her life was completely changing.

She was feeling afraid that she could have a seizure at any time. With each seizure, there was a chance of death. People were dying from seizures all the time, but she was refusing to give up. Were people dying from seizures often? Yes, people were dying from seizures all the time.
She was continuing to do sports and she was continuing to drive. Her children were learning to drive from a young age.
What were her children learning to do? Her children were learning to drive from a young age.
They were getting ready to take over the car if Diane had a seizure.
