Past Continuous
Shaun was growing up in a rural part of England.
Where was Shaun growing up? He was growing up in a rural part of England.
The local animals were his friends. At a young age, Shaun was watching how the local foxes live. As a young man, one of his first jobs was working in a game preserve.
Was Shaun working in a local store? No, Shaun wasn’t working in a local store. He was working in a local game preserve.
A game preserve isn’t a normal park. A game preserve is a place where people are keeping animals to shoot and kill. Shaun loved animals. He didn’t want them to die. He was feeding them and planning to help the foxes escape. When his boss found out, he was fired.
Was Shaun eating the foxes? No, he wasn’t eating the foxes. He was feeding the foxes. Was he planning to hunt them? No, he wasn’t planning to hunt them. He was planning to help them escape.
Later in life, Shaun joined the army and became a soldier. This experience as a soldier was making Shaun’s body and mind strong.
Was Shaun’s experience as a soldier making his body and mind weak? No, it wasn’t making his body and mind weak. It was making his body and mind strong.
This was preparing him for the tough life of living as a wolf.

After the army, Shaun returned to his love of wild animals and became a wolf researcher. He learned about wolves from Native American Indian researchers, who studied and respected wolves.
