Today we’re gonna talk about beauty and makeup and how important our appearance is to us.

Something that we women spend a lot of time and money on.

Trying to make ourselves beautiful and look nice.

Of course the real beauty comes from within your heart and when you’re beautiful on the inside via positive thoughts and love for yourself and others, that will make you glow on the outside.

Yeah, that’s right. But yet everyone loves cosmetics (which is another word for makeup) so let’s learn the vocabulary.

So let’s learn the vocabulary.

First of all, you need to be careful about how you use the words cosmetics and makeup.

They are interchangeable, because makeup is a type of cosmetics.

However, cosmetics are products for the entire body.

Like creams, lotions, powders, etc. to improve your appearance, while makeup is specifically for the face.

With makeup, People try to fix their imperfections or flaws; those little things that make us less than perfect.

Some people want to hide certain parts of their skin, like scars or acne.

Makeup helps to conceal or cover up these imperfections.

Maybe you don’t have anything to cover up, but you feel like you look tired or pale.

Many people call this looking washed out.

Like all the color has been washed out from your face!

So a little makeup will give you a healthy glow, which means you will look well-rested and youthful.

There are several phrases for the makeup process.

The two most common are put on makeup, and do (someone’s) makeup.

For example, you might say:

It takes her five minutes to do her makeup.

No, no it doesn’t. Takes more.

Because where is she? It’s been an hour already!

Oh she’s putting her makeup on?!

Okay, we’re gonna have to wait a little more…

An important note:

“Makeup” is not a verb; it’s a noun.

It’s incorrect to say “I makeup”

or “I makeup my face.”

Uh uh don’t say that.

Now you may ask, what about “wear”? To wear makeup? Is that right?

Yes, of course it is. But there is a little difference between putting on makeup and wearing it.

When you say I’m putting my makeup on, it means that you are doing your make up, you are applying it to your face.

But when you say I’m wearing makeup, it means that you already have it on.

Like now, I am wearing makeup.

What about when you wanna clean your face. How would you say that?

You can use the verbs take off and remove.

I have taken off my makeup.

Or I have removed my makeup.

I’m gonna remove my makeup.

There are lots of technical words and phrases and I’m gonna make sure to teach you everything you need to know.

Like the correct names for different makeup products, parts of face, as well as verbs and adjectives to use to talk about makeup.

But to cover it all, I’ll have to make more than just one video… great!
