Today I have 2 words for you.

Jungle,

and Forest…

What is the difference?

You asked.

Let’s see.

Well, they both mean a

big area full of trees, vegetation and animals

but are still slightly different from each other.

Size

Forests are larger than jungles,

so jungles are smaller in comparison.

location and climate

Forests are located all around the world

and can be classified into various types

such as:

Tropical rainforests,

Mediterranean Forests,

Coniferous forests, etc.

Jungles are a type of rainforests.

They can be found at the margins of forests

in tropical climates

and are often more humid

whereas forests are less humid.

Penetrability

Forests are penetrable.

Jungles are impenetrable.

Animals

Forests are home to animals like deer,

bears,

squirrels,

rabbits…

And on the other hand,

the jungle is mostly associated with animals like

monkeys,

snakes,

crocodiles.

So, basically,

the defining element between these ecosystems

is size and climate.

Besides the terms jungle and forest

there’s also woods.

Woods are considered to be the smallest area

of dense regrowth

followed by forests

which make up bigger land areas

and finally jungles

which are made up of overgrown tangled forests.

Depending on where you are in the world

there are other types of forests

that you might get to explore

that even have their own specific ecosystem

of animals and plants.
