they are sometimes used instead of “but”.

Number one:

Although

We can use it at the beginning of the sentence.

Like:

Although it is a small town,

there are several cafes around.

And also in between two sentences.

I believe it could happen,

although it is unlikely.

However

Use a semi-colon before

and a comma after however

when you’re using it to write a compound sentence.

I must see him;

however, it might be painful for me.

Nevertheless

You use nevertheless

to add surprising information

or something in contrast to what’s been said

or written

the same way we use “but”

Nevertheless,
