Where did Santa come from?

Santa Claus is a historical and fictional figure

in the folk culture of Western

and Christian countries.

Santa’s mostly a fat old man

with a long white beard

and a red suit

who usually carries a bag full of presents

for kids

on Christmas day or the night before.

It is believed that Santa Claus

divides children into good and bad groups

and gives presents to children who behave well

throughout the year.

There is also a story that these gifts

are made in the Santa Claus toy workshop

in the North Pole.

Who is Santa really?

Santa Claus is actually a nickname

given to a great bishop named St, Nicholas.

Legend has it that

St, Nicholas was born around 280 AD

in Asia Minor

or modern-day Turkey.

Santa Claus gave all his income

and inheritance to the poor

and helped the needy and the sick.

But how did Santa Claus become famous?

One of the most famous stories

about St, Nicholas is that

he provided dowries for two girls

whose father wanted to sell them as slaves

because of poverty

and saved them from the bad things that

could happen to them.

The story is that:

Nicholas threw coins in a sock

and led the coins through the chimney of the house

this happened twice

and the father was able to prepare the dowry

for his two daughters

after the marriage of the two daughters

their father

was determined to find the benefactor.

So he always sat by the fireplace

and one day when new coins fell into the house

he could see Nicholas.

After being identified

he asked the old man

not to introduce him to anyone

so he could remain anonymous forever

but after a while

he told everyone

and anyone who secretly received help

believed that St, Nicholas had helped them.
