is to know your level of proficiency

and to choose what is necessary for you

at the moment.

Whether you’re a beginner

or an advanced English learner

after watching this video you’ll know exactly

In my view English learners

can rate their skills based on these 4 levels

Beginner

Elementary

Intermediate

Upper Intermediate

Advanced

and Near-Native

So, for each level I’m going to tell you

what you need

and what you have to do in order to get better

and make progress

Let’s start with the beginner level

A beginner just needs to have

basic communication skills.

What do we mean by that?

We mean using basic words and expressions

very short and simple sentences

introducing yourself, etc

when you are at the basic level

or you’ve made progress to elementary level

you can use a bit more grammar

understand more sentences

and receive or provide more information

in a conversation.

and how can we achieve that?

Should we start with grammar?

You don’t need to start with learning and memorizing

grammatical formulas and structures.

You’ll pick them up as you go

and you’ll learn them in more detail later.

Well look

If you travel to another country

you may just say the word “hungry” to anyone

and they’ll know you need food

and will tell you oh the restaurant is right there

So, if you’re still on vocabulary

and you can’t put a sentence together

you’re a basic beginner.

how do I learn my first collection of vocabulary?

Easy,

do whatever you find enjoyable.

for me when I started, it was Music

When you do this,

you’re learning without even realizing it.

Allright

Intermediate

I think at this level learning grammar further

and in more detail is the best choice.

Cause now you know a good amount of vocabulary

but you can’t make super complex sentences

so yeah you have to work on your grammar

and try to make more complex sentences

as well as becoming aware of the process

through which you’re making them

Being an intermediate-level learner means that

you know decent vocabulary

proper grammar

and you sound pretty nice

not like a child

no offense

but even with all of this

you still don’t sound like native speakers

this is where we go to the advanced level.

in this level you need to be able to think

in the language you’re learning.

let me give you an example.

a friend of mine asked me

to check his piece of writing for him

and as I’m reading it

there is a sentence that says

don’t put it in back of your ear

Nobody says such a thing in English.

So, I’m like

what the hell is that supposed to mean?

That’s why you need to think in the language

say things how they say it

write things how they write it

put things together like they do

not how we think is right.

This way you don’t think of a sentence in farsi

and then translate it.

This is the level in which you sound proficient

and very fluent.

just for the record I’m at this level

and trying to make it to the next level

which I call near-native.

At this level

you already have every tool you need

and when someone’s speaking you don’t guess

you understand

you have good pronunciation

and productive skills

this is where you don’t really think and

analyze what you wanna say

you’re not thinking what is right or wrong.

you just say it that’s it you’re done.

It becomes more of an automatic process.

where you are

and try to work on the things I told you before
