today we’re gonna talk about phrasal verbs.

Unfortunately

we don’t have phrasal verbs in Farsi and there are so many of them in English.

And also most of the time you can’t understand phrasal verbs just by translating

which makes them a little difficult to learn.

But before that

let’s see what exactly is a phrasal verb?

A phrasal verb is a verb which is composed of two or three words.

The first part is always a short verb like “go”, “get”,“take” etc.

And the second part is a preposition like “out”, “in”, “up”, “down”, etc.

or it can be an adverb

like “away”, “forward” etc.

Many words can be both prepositions and adverbs depending on how they are used.

The other thing you need to know is that sometimes a phrasal verb has multiple meanings.

I don’t want to go into more details just wanna show you how it looks in general.

now each phrasal verb

has a non-phrasal synonym for example:

I told one of my friends that I know you have a shitty life you gotta “carry on”though or I could say

I know you have a shitty life you gotta “continue” though.

Please tell these to your friends.

They need it.

So carry on = continue.

okay, what I really wanna tell you guys is that

you don’t need phrasal verbs to express yourselves but native speakers love using them and they use it in their daily conversations.

We learn them in order to sound like a native speaker and to be able to follow their words while they’re speaking.
