Only و just چه فرقی دارن؟

Only and just

get used a lot in the English language.

I just want this;

I only want that

but are they exactly the same?

Only and just have one similar meaning

like:

It’s just the beginning,

it’s only the beginning

but because they match up like that

doesn’t mean that they’re always the same

let me show you what I mean

Just and only are similar

when we use them as an adverb

and in this case ‘just’ means

‘no more than one’

and ‘only’ it means ‘exclusive’

example for ‘just’:

they just wanted my money

it means it was no more than money

you can replace ‘only’

instead of just in this sentence

you could say

they only wanted my money

so in this case they are similar.

When we talk about ‘only’

and we talk about ‘exclusive’

here’s an example for it:

we have only two tickets left

it means all the tickets are gone

except these two.

But the rest I’m about to tell you

are not similar.

let’s look at the word ‘just’

in this case it means ‘exactly’

for example:

this vacation is just what I need

but you can’t say

this vacation is only what I need

that doesn’t make any sense.

Another one we can say about ‘just’ is

‘very recent’

for example:

I have just missed the bus.

I can’t say I have only missed the bus.

‘only’ will not work here

Ok

when we talk about adjective for only

it means ‘the one’

for example:

He was the only one that could do it

but you can’t say

he was the just one that could do it.

It’s wrong

So, we have another adjective using for only

and It’s ‘the only choice’

for example:

you have peanut allergies

and It’s the only thing you cannot eat.
